Monte Chiaro’s US Sommelier favorite
Stacey’s Story about Riserva : As someone who particularly enjoys the depth of the traditional Italian reds, I have had my fair share of unforgettable wines. And, for those of you who have had a tasting or class with me already know this, my favorite wine from Montechiaro is the Chianti Riserva 2021. This kind of wine speaks not only to the palate, but also to a sense of place and time. Such a wine resonates with those who appreciate nuances without pretense and it evokes the charm of a hillside vineyard, sun-drenched afternoons and the alluring beauty of Italian winemaking. While the wines of Montechiaro are consistent and beautiful expressions of the Tuscan terroir, there is something special in this bottle that makes it rise above the others.
From the first swirl in the glass, you are met with deep layers of aromas: ripe cherry, dried rose petals, leather, tobacco and a hint of earthy spices. It carries the bold elegance and complexity that one might associate with a Brunello di Montalcino, but is more approachable. On the palate it is equally compelling. There is a fine balance of richness and restraint, silky tannins, a core of vibrant red fruit and a long, expressive finish. It is powerful yet graceful, and intense yet nuanced. The kind of wine that makes you slow down and pay attention. If you get the chance to try it, I highly recommend it. But fair warning- you might just find your new favorite wine too!
