OSTRO PINOT NERO ROSE SPUMANTE, FRIULI, ITALY
Named for the playful, salty Ostro winds that blow up from the Adriatic Sea. Made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown on Friuli’s peerless rocky terroir — lots of spice and silk and tons of fun, too. Ideal as an aperitif or with regional salumi and silky cheeses.

UMANI RONCHI CASAL DI SERRA VERDICCHIO DEI CASTELLI DE JESI, MARCHES, ITALY
Casal di Serra was one of the first truly “selected” Verdicchio made in this variety’s production area. Very attractive and classic varietal nose with herby fruit and grassy notes. The palate offers crisp acidity with a little bit of waxiness and tasty stone fruit flavors. Lovely, long finish.

AUGUST KESSELER ‘THE DAILY KESSELER’ PINOT NOIR, RHEINGAU, GERMANY
When August Kesseler took over his parents’ establishment, which was founded in 1924, he was only 19 years old. Under August’s guidance, the estate has become one of the flagship producers of the famed Rheingau region and has also acquired a high international reputation. Grapes are handpicked, vinified separately by parcel, and elevated in barrique. You will enjoy asubtle scent of black cherry and blueberry, paired with the delicious aromas of cassis and red pepper.

We will be pairing with three exceptional wines, two artisanal cheeses, and some delicious other curated tidbits. The wines will ship from WineVIP in California via the service you select at checkout. The food packages will be shipped from New Orleans via FedEx Second-Day Air to ensure freshness.

Your food package from New Orleans will include two featured cheeses from St. James Cheese, two charcuterie selections from Cochon Butcher, artisanal crackers and preserves, and a hand-crafted King Cake from the Brennan family kitchens.

ROBIOLA BOSINA ‘DUE LATTE’ (SHEEP/COW) – PIEDMONT, ITALY
This luscious little slab of mild, creamy goodness is made from the pasteurized milk of Piedmont cows and sheep, for perfectly balanced mushroomy, salty, and sweet flavors. The silky interior has been known to run from the tender, edible rind ever so gently across the plate when warm, so be ready with slices of crusty bread in one hand and a flute of Prosecco in the other. Multi-tasking was never so delicious! Aged 1-2 months.

PECORINO GESSATO (SHEEP) – TUSCANY, ITALY
Produced by Fattoria Lischeto near Balze Volterra in Tuscany, Pecorino Gessato is a smaller format Pecorino made with raw milk on the property. Of particular note is the aging on this cheese – which is to say it’s the youngest pecorino made with raw milk we’ve encountered in the US. Flavors are bright and juicy – tangy from the micro-flora of the cheese, but without any strong lanolin or oxidized sheep fat flavors. Aged 3-5 months.

At this Wine and Cheese Tasting PARTY you will get to know winemakers and cheesemakers from all over the world, while enjoying great New Orleans live music and the oversized personalities of some true New Orleanians. Did you know that just about everyone in New Orleans has a costume closet? We are ready for a party or a parade at a moment’s notice! So feel free to put on a funny hat and a feather boa, or go all-out and wear a costume that matches the theme.

This month we will celebrate that most New Orleans of holidays – MARDI GRAS! We will broadcast LIVE from the world-famous MARDI GRAS WORLD complex in New Orleans, giving you perhaps the only chance this year to be among the biggest and brightest Mardi Gras floats of Carnival legend. So go all out with great costumes and fancy throws for your own Mardi Gras fête or just sit back and watch the show—it doesn’t matter as long as you’re ready to have some fun!. We will also bring you some fantastic live music from New Orleans’ own Tipitinas on Napoleon Avenue.

Make sure you chill your white and sparkling wines in advance and take your cheese out of the refrigerator at least 20 minutes before the party gets started. Red wines will usually benefit from a quick chill in the refrigerator if you aren’t storing them at wine cellar temperature. You will need wine opening & food preparation tools—but you knew that didn’t you?

Most importantly, be prepared to have some fun. Because YOU are part of the show!

About us

Commander’s Palace, nestled in the tree-lined Garden District, has been a New Orleans landmark since 1893. Known for the award-winning quality of its food and convivial atmosphere, the history of this famous restaurant offers a glimpse into New Orleans’ storied past and has been THE go-to destination for Haute Creole cuisine and whimsical Louisiana charm. The winner of seven James Beard Awards and Wine Spectator’s Grand Award, Commander’s Palace is a culinary legend.

Dan Davis

At the venerable Commander’s Palace in New Orleans, there is no such thing as a head sommelier. Dan Davis, the man who oversees the impressive 2,600-bottle list, is instead simply known as the “Wine Guy”—a moniker that embodies the restaurant’s philosophy of making sure guests enjoy every aspect of their dining experience without intimidation.
