Jan & Caryl Panman lived and worked in over a dozen countries in all corners of the world before Limoux’s stunning wines stopped them in
their tracks. Now in their second decade here, they are rooted as deeply to the soils of Rives-Blanques as their vines. Passion is contagious, and not surprisingly, tendrils of love for the place, the profession, and the product, have wound themselves around the rest of the family as well.
Chateau Rives-Blanques is a 22 ha family-run estate near Limoux, surrounded by woodland in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Seriously committed to environmentally sustainable wine growing, they make wines and manage the lands with ecological integrity, full of respect for nature and for its unique terroir. It lies in a European-protected nature reserve, just a stone's throw from two World Heritage Sites: the magnificent medieval walled city of Carcassonne, and the gently flowing waters of the Canal du Midi. Just down the road, the secret to Dan Brown's da Vinci Code is still deeply buried in Rennes le Chateau.
Chateau Rives-Blanques is a part of the Outsiders, rocking the wine world from the Languedoc. Working in the south of France, the Outsiders create exciting wines which make full use of the region’s highly diverse soil types, climatic conditions and grape varieties. Other Outsider wines available from Wine VIP are Chateau d'Angles, Domaine de Saumarez, Chateau de Combebelle, Chateau Saint Jacques d'Albas.
The richness of the oaked chardonnay dominates while there is attractive citrus acidity on the finish more reminiscent of Chenin. An attractive blend with impressive persistence. Quite a mouthful - a food wine! Medium body and some real structure.
