Located on the upper Naramata Bench in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, Foxtrot Vineyards was established as a winery operation in
2003 by the Allander Family with the primary goal of producing premium Pinot Noir. The inaugural 2004 vintage was released in 2007 and soon thereafter Foxtrot Pinot Noir became highly regarded among the finest restaurants in Western Canada and Ontario. In 2008 at the urging of top sommeliers, the Allander Family decided to add Chardonnay to their portfolio. Today, considered by many to be Canada’s top Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producer, Foxtrot’s wines are sought all over the world from England, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, and even Burgundy, France. John Schreiner, Canada’s preeminent wine writer and respected wine judge wrote in John Schreiner’s Okanagan Wine Tour Guide: “The winery’s Pinot Noirs are among the most elegant and suave examples of this variety from any Canadian producer. One buyer in 2013 compared it extravagantly to La Tache and Richebourg. The winery’s Burgundy-styled Chardonnay, first made in 2008, is arguably the Okanagan’s most sophisticated.”
Foxtrot Vineyard’s philosophy is that great wine begins in the vineyard. They work carefully on a vine-by-vine basis aggressively pruning in the early season to ensure a balanced canopy. Immediately after fruit set they green harvest any excess clusters to ensure optimum yield per vine. Leaf thinning is carried out in two passes, with the north side completed first in order to ensure even ripeness of the clusters at harvest time. Once veraison is nearly complete, any clusters lagging behind are dropped to the ground.
This attention to detail continues in the cellar where, using old world Burgundian winemaking techniques married with new world state of the art technology, winemaker Gustav Allander works to produce age worthy wines that showcase the amazing Naramata terroir. These wines are world class and have finished at the top of blind tastings with Grand Cru Burgundies and top Oregon Pinot Noirs.
The wine with a bright ruby hue is a wonderfully complex wine with an array of red fruits, spice, and earthy aromas. On the palate the wine strikes a perfect harmony between power and elegance with silky tannins and beautiful red fruit characteristics and more of the classic Pinot Noir earthiness. The finish is long with great complexity and finesse. Drinking well now, the wine should age for 15+ years
This winefrom the 2014 vintage with a medium to light lemon colour has aromas of citrus, stone fruits and subtle spice. These flavors continue on the palate with a complex minerality framed by a rich mid palate with subtle spice, green apple and citrus fruits, and a lengthy finish.
